REMEMBRANCE

2018

A self-playing video game which generates a grave every time someone is killed from conflicts. Aiming to raise awareness for the continuing bitter conflicts that rage across the globe. Two people die, every minute from conflicts around the world (BBC).
Two versions of this work were exhibited for my residency solo show CONFLICT. One displaying the vast numbers killed from conflict, since the residency began six weeks ago. While the other displayed the number of people killed from conflict since the exhibition opened that day. Each monolith represents the grave of someone killed from conflicts since the video game was started. As the death count rises the aesthetic changes from dramatic to plain, referring to the media’s normalisation, desensitisation or ignoring of the most brutal, bitter and long lasting conflicts.
Online version available here and here, finally.
